CARLOS HERRAIZ, Barcelona

"I didn’t know what to expect from Kavala and from my experience here, I came here quite blind and with no expectations at all. After three weeks here I can say that I leave with a little bit of sadness, I felt somehow very attached to the city and to it’s energy. I have met amazing people, even though the language has been a barrier in many occasions...

I spent the first week just walking to get a sense and engage with the place and the people and letting the work be a consequence of my experience. I walked around four hours every day, being very curious, taking lots of photos, trying to speak to people, collecting material...

… and I realized of that beautiful decadence that you feel here. The abandoned buildings, the old walls with old graffiti... it just felt like in a way it has been stuck in the past and you could see and feel the remains of time. (Carlos Herraiz)
